¿Has pensado en qué especies te gustaría plantar?

Somehow I missed your post but caught it on Kathy's post this morning. Your photos are charming and we are starting to have many homeowners in Austin moving to xeriscaping. Xeriscape Landscape - Easy To Maintain & Little Water Needed
There is an odd word utilized here in the High Desert of Albuquerque NM known as Xeriscape. So What in the world is Xeriscape pronounced (Zeri-scape) you may ask. The word actually comes from the Greek Xeros (Dry) and landscape. A lot of people hear this word and then incorrectly pronounce it as Xero or Zeroscape. Xeriscape is certainly not zeroscape in fact it can be quite pleasing to the eye.
Xeriscape with Rock and Plants
Here in the High Desert of Albuquerque where the altitude can be 6,000’ in the foothills area and 5,280’ (1 Mile) in the center of town. Night time temperatures drop quickly at sundown. Unlike the other mile high city water here in Albuquerque and New Mexico in general is scarce and conservation of it is a constant push. Over 70% of the city’s water use is for landscape so the local Water Utility Authority offers rebates for families and business that make the switch from a high water use landscape to the low use Xeriscape model. The city authority is also known to issue stiff fines for homes and business who choose to waste our precious water.
Xeriscape brings nature
Xeriscape utilizes low water use plants that are well acclimated to this special climate and elevation. Xeriscape is generally a combination of crushed rock, boulders or decorative rock and the plants are beautiful attracting humming birds, bees, butterflies and a multitude of other birds. Once established xeriscape is very easy to maintain with little trimming, no mowing or edging but some occasional weed pulling. When in Albuquerque you will notice this common theme in many parts of the city including the 10 acre “Big I” interchange of I-25 & I-40.
So don't Zeroscape but Xeriscape you’ll be glad you did, so will your wallet.

Designer Suzy Hoodless worked closely with Johnny Holland of Hackett Holland architects on the extensive renovation of this Victorian house in London.
Several clever, glazed elements give Johnny's conversion its particular allure. Undivided windows give a view all the way to the entrance hall, and reveal a double-height bespoke lighting installation, which hangs above the coffee table from Mint.
The gorgeous little garden, landscaped by Alasdair Cameron, features white cobblestones, slim, silver-birch trees, and a living wall dotted with birdhouses.
Out of view, on the lower-ground level and accessed from the basement, is a miniature smoking yard. Something of a sunken surrealist urban folly, resplendant with outdoor stone mantelpiece. See inside the house here.
Window boxes are welcoming and add charm to even the most boring facade. They can dress up homes, sheds and commercial buildings such as retail shops, restaurants and hotels.
Although they are widely popular throughout Europe, there are towns in the US that are known for their window boxes. Charleston, South Carolina is one of those and it’s on my bucket list to visit. I could walk up and down every street and photograph every one of them.
You don’t have to live in Europe or Charleston to add these charming accessories to your home. Here’s a sampling of window boxes that add mass curb appeal.
Neutral Window Boxes
Although I am a big fan of color, I do love the simplicity of white flowers in these black window boxes on this brownstone. So elegant.
For shaded areas, ferns add a nice touch.
Window Boxes with Color
I like how these plants add height as well as a waterfall effect. The pink geraniums add a nice pop of color.
Shutters, window boxes and the trellis add charm to what would have been a plain wall with garage doors.
The pink flowers add color to this neutral home.
The peach and white themed flowers are a nice contrast to the black shutters on this white home.
The trailing vine and orange flowers brighten up this beige home.
I love the colors from the purple family in this window box against aqua shutters. Simply stunning.
Change the Window Boxes Seasonally
Window boxes are not just for summer. Following are spring, fall and winter themed ones.

Garden Shed Window Box
I was determined to have a window box to feed my window box obsession and found the perfect spot to add one! We added a planter below the window on our garden shed. Both the window box and our hanging flower basket add charm to a plain shed which is very visible in our backyard.
Where have you traveled and enjoyed seeing blooming window boxes? Do you have any at your home?
